HiMAT data tutorial: Reference

Key Points

Introduction
Data Types
  • Usage of various HiMAT resources will vary depending on the type of data being analyzed

NASA ADAPT: Overview
  • We will use ADAPT primarily to store and process large gridded datasets

NASA ADAPT: Linux VM
  • The Linux VM provides us with maximum flexibility in accessing and manipulating HiMAT datasets (relative to the Windows VM)

NASA ADAPT: Windows VM
  • ADAPT provides a Windows interface for access to HiMAT data. The primary advantage is taking advantage of GIS software tools.

Transferring Data to/from ADAPT
  • Use standard secure ftp protocols to transfer data to/from your local computer

  • Use WinSCP if on a Windows platform, and sftp from the command line if on Mac/Linux

Python Examples
  • ADAPT is a good environment for pre-processing of HiMAT datasets using open source toolkits.
